A permalink is the link to an individual post. This is important if you are trying to link to another blog post. Everyone who has a blog should be using their permalinks. If you do not use your blogs permalinks, you will be linking to your blogs homepage.
The problem with this is that as you post new articles to your blog they will go down the list and eventually into your archives. Then your reader has no idea where to find the post they were looking for. This is a problem as the reader may not want to explore your blog to find what they were actually looking for.
