How does a search engine work?

Posted by Unknown on 12:04 with No comments
Search engines are a massive part of our daily lives now. They are odd and intelligent things. In this post I am going to tell you how a search engine works.

What is a search engine?

A search engine is a programme that searches the internet for websites that match your keywords that you type. Search engines use their own databases of information to find what it is you are looking for.

Although what I am writing in this post today is the bare minimum of how a search engine works, its difficult to write how a search engine works when they change frequently of how they search. Below you will find a brief description of how a search engine operates:
  1. The searcher types a query of keywords into a search engine.
  2. Search engine software quickly sorts through literally millions of pages in its database to find matches to this query.
  3. The search engine's results are ranked in order of relevancy.
Here is how a search engine works. I did say it was brief but now you have a more vivid picture of how search engines operate.
