Every single person that creates a website wants his/her reader to stay on their website or blog for as long as possible. We all have our aims for keeping a reader on our sites, such as subscribing to a feed, read another post, buy a product , write a comment, suggest a post through social networks, bookmark a post, etc.
To convince the reader to do just these, you have to catch the reader’s attention. As I have experienced this is a very hard thing to do, and to bear in mind that the longer the reader spends on your site, the better your site is becoming.

To convince the reader to do just these, you have to catch the reader’s attention. As I have experienced this is a very hard thing to do, and to bear in mind that the longer the reader spends on your site, the better your site is becoming.
To capture the reader’s attention you can use these simple actions:
- Use an impressing vocabulary. When a reader notices that your writing fancy and eye-catching words, he is more likely to get impressed and keep reading your post. A good vocabulary shows that the author is an expert and a professional on his field and he is not just another blogger.
- Use the correct headlines. That’s critical for your success. Finding the proper headline is maybe the most important factor concerning your reader’s decision whether to keep reading or leave your website. The headline is what the eye first notices because they define what content follows next. Many great bloggers even say that the time they spend to write the post’s content and the time they spend for writing the headlines is almost the same.
- Make it a goal to tell exactly what your article is about in your first sentence or two.
- Try starting your article with a question. Sometimes questions can help engage readers.
- Use sub-headings to section off the article into easy to process morsels.
- Create a compelling intro paragraph to hook the reader in.
- Choose your topic carefully. Focus on topics that solve specific problems that your readers are facing.
- Keep your article as brief as possible, while still providing as much quality information as you can. In other words, avoid rambling!
- Show some personality. This will help readers connect with your article. If you reveal yourself a little in your articles, readers sense your personal
investment and they are more likely to pay attention to what you say. Authentic, genuine, written form the heart–all of these qualities attract readers. - Get to your main points quickly in your article. Give a brief intro, then launch into the meat of your article.
- Write like you speak. Writing that’s conversational is easier to pay attention to. (Proper grammar is still necessary of course.)
- Write articles that express original thoughts that are relevant to the needs of your readers.
